Democratic gubernatorial candidate Hannah Pingree appeared with Planned Parenthood's activism and lobbying arm at a press event in Portland on October 30, NEWS CENTER Maine reported.

Pingree was joined by the organization's president and by Maine voters. She said she had been a volunteer and a primary care patient at Planned Parenthood and described herself as the strongest candidate in the race on abortion rights.

"I will defend access to reproductive healthcare in every corner of Maine, not just Portland or Bangor, but in rural Maine too, where someone can be an hour or more from the nearest provider," Pingree said. She also said she would work to protect access to mifepristone and to add reproductive freedom to the Maine Constitution.

At the same event, Pingree discussed her approach to the state's housing shortage, saying she would focus on investment in housing production, according to the station.
