Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Troy Jackson held the final stop of his Solidarity Forever Tour in Scarborough on November 1, appearing with Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey two days before Maine votes, Latin Times reported.

The tour began in early September and moved through Lewiston, Gorham, Jay, Bath, Unity and Skowhegan. Jackson, a logger from Allagash and a former president of the Maine Senate, met with lobstermen in Ellsworth on October 31 before the Scarborough event, which his campaign aimed at turnout in southern Maine.

Surveys by Marist University put the race within the margin of error: Jackson led Republican Sen. Susan Collins 49% to 47% in polling taken October 22-25, after a 51%-47% result in an October 1-4 survey. The Cook Political Report rates the contest a toss-up.

Jackson has been endorsed by former President Barack Obama, who released a video message on October 8, and has campaigned with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly. His campaign counts backing from more than 20 unions.

Collins, who chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee, attended a ribbon-cutting for a federally funded public safety building in Greenville and made other stops, citing more than $425 million she directed to Maine in a single fiscal year. Polls open November 3.
