Windham voters turned down a ballot measure that would have converted the town's middle school building into a municipal community center, WGME reported on November 5.

The measure called for spending roughly $19.5 million on renovations to the existing structure. Windham Middle School is scheduled to shut down in 2027, when a new school building is due to open, leaving the town to decide what to do with the property.

Under the rejected plan, the renovated building would have housed the bulk of Windham's municipal operations, including the library, the parks and recreation department and social services offices, according to WGME.
