Federal Grant Funds $2,400 Awards For Manufacturing Students
A $5 million SBA grant will pay $2,400 stipends to Maine community college students training for manufacturing jobs.
A $5 million federal Small Business Administration grant is funding $2,400 awards for Maine community college students enrolled in manufacturing training. More than 600 students at Central Maine Community College, Southern Maine Community College and York County Community College are eligible if they complete eight courses covering welding, machining and fabrication, plus blueprint reading, quality assurance and advanced manufacturing technology. Organizers describe the funding as part of a broader national effort to grow the manufacturing workforce and match trained graduates with employers throughout Maine, NEWS CENTER Maine reported.
