The City of Portland has revived consideration of a Bloomberg Philanthropies grant worth up to $750,000 to speed housing development, WGME reported on October 21, 2026.

The city's mayor had initially been hesitant about the award, arguing the money was limited to measures Portland had already put in place, which left the application in question, according to the station.

City Councilor Kate Sykes pushed back on the administration's reluctance, pointing to two social housing pilot projects the council has advanced that would need staff support. "I mean, we have. We have pilot projects, and this absolutely addresses the housing pipeline," Sykes said.

A council committee is examining other ways the grant money could be applied to Portland's housing shortage, WGME reported.
