Maine Truckers Say Record Diesel Prices Are Squeezing Margins
Fuel costs near $800 to $900 for three days of driving as Maine's diesel average climbs about 68% over the past year.
Diesel prices in Maine hit an all-time high of $6.52 a gallon on September 23, 2026, driving up costs for commercial truck drivers who must absorb the increase, NEWS CENTER Maine reported. AAA data cited by the station showed Maine's statewide diesel average has climbed nearly 68 percent over the past year. Trucker Hank Hannenberg, who has more than a decade of experience, said his fuel bills now run $800 to $900 for just three days of driving. The Maine Motor Transport Association said only one other cost line ranks above fuel for trucking companies, and the burden is falling hardest on small operators. Experts say the higher costs are ultimately passed on to consumers.
