Maine was one of 11 competitive states included in a battleground polling series released on Oct. 15, 2026, by the Program for Public Consultation, a polling group tied to the University of Maryland's public policy school, according to a PR Newswire release.

Maine's 2nd Congressional District was also among the 28 competitive U.S. House districts surveyed. In total, 19,949 adults were polled between July 21 and Aug. 17, 2026, with sample sizes ranging from 600 to 2,016 per state and 499 to 592 per district. Margins of error ranged from 2.9 to 8.1 percentage points.

The release did not break out results for Maine. Across all battlegrounds, majorities of both Democrats and Republicans backed staying in NATO, continuing foreign aid programs and keeping to the international moratorium on nuclear weapons testing, the group said. Continued U.S. military aid to Ukraine drew majority support overall in every state and district surveyed, and Republican majorities in 31 of the 39.

The item was the 14th and final installment in the group's "Common Ground in the Battlegrounds?" series, which covered 15 topics and more than 100 policy questions ahead of the November election. Project partners included Voice of the People and the Civic Innovation Center.
