Groups Say Ending Utility Perk Could Save Mainers $2M
Three consumer advocacy groups say removing an outdated electric utility perk could save Maine ratepayers more than $2 million a year.
A trio of Maine consumer advocacy groups wants a financial perk currently given to an electric utility scrapped, calling it outdated, NEWS CENTER Maine reported. The groups estimate customers would save upwards of $2 million annually if the perk is eliminated, according to the report. NEWS CENTER Maine's report did not name the three groups, identify the utility receiving the perk, or explain exactly what the perk entails. It also did not say whether regulators have responded or what process ending the perk would require. No timetable for a decision was given in the report.
