Central Maine Power brought online upgrades at its Stickney's Corner and Bonney Eagle substations and finished the Rock Row 34-kV switchyard project during 2026, parent company Avangrid, Inc. said in an announcement issued on Oct. 13.

The Maine utility also moved ahead on battery system replacements and automation work at a number of substations statewide, and installed automated devices at eight substations that the company said give it more flexibility in responding to outages and shifting conditions on the system, according to the Business Wire release.

The Maine work is part of a broader program Avangrid described as covering more than 40 substations and substation facilities in Maine, New York and Connecticut, ranging from rebuilds and equipment swaps to flood mitigation and added capacity. In Connecticut, subsidiary United Illuminating advanced flood protection at substations in Bridgeport, New Haven and Milford. In New York, New York State Electric & Gas and Rochester Gas and Electric reported progress at substations including Fraser, Milo, Canandaigua and Substation 43 in Rochester.

"Substations are the backbone of a reliable electric grid," said Jose Antonio Miranda, chief executive of Avangrid.

Avangrid, part of the Iberdrola Group, counts roughly $50 billion in assets, operates in 25 states and employs more than 8,300 people.
