Winterport Winery Closes After 25 Years As Owners Choose Family Over Business
The five pharmacist-owners who bought the winery and brewery in 2021 are closing it and listing the building for $575,000.
After nearly 25 years, Winterport Winery and its sister company, Penobscot Bay Brewery, have shut down, though only the property that housed them is up for sale. Mike and Joan Anderson founded the winery in 2001 and launched the brewery as a companion venture in 2009; ownership passed in 2021 to five young pharmacists. Two of those owners, Alex and Katie Kolb, announced the closure on social media, writing that raising a young son had reordered what mattered most to them and pulled their attention away from the business. A listing puts the Main Street building at $575,000, with kitchen equipment bundled into that asking price. Separately, the equipment used to produce wine and operate the distillery is being sold for an undisclosed amount, a detail that leaves room for another beverage producer to take over the site. An earlier tenant, the restaurant Pairings, operated there before closing in 2011.
