Orono Building New $3.5 Million Police Station
The department is turning a vacant former Bank of America building into its new home.
Construction is underway in Orono on a $3.5 million police station that will occupy a vacant Bank of America building. The building sits on Main Street, and NEWS CENTER Maine reported the site will become the police department's new home. The move will free officers from the town's public safety building, which they have shared with the fire department in cramped conditions. Police Chief Daniel Merrill said the department has outgrown its current location. Officials said the new station is meant to give the department a modern, more visible presence in downtown Orono.
