Old Town Bridge Partly Collapses During Construction
No injuries were reported after part of a new bridge over the Stillwater River in Old Town gave way while crews poured concrete.
Part of a bridge under construction over the Stillwater River in Old Town gave way on Aug. 13, 2026, as workers were placing concrete on its deck, Maine Public reported. Local police and a Maine Department of Transportation spokesman confirmed the partial collapse, according to the report. Images shared on social media showed sections of the structure hanging into the water below, Maine Public reported. State transportation officials said nobody driving or working nearby was hurt, and the cause is now being examined. The span sits roughly 2.5 miles north of Orono, close to a temporary crossing built beside it, according to the report.
