It's the second time the Senate candidate has been tied to the far right, after a fall 2025 tattoo controversy.

Graham Platner, a Democrat running for U.S. Senate in Maine, has deleted a social media post after critics pointed out its far-right origin, the Bangor Daily News reported, citing The Hill.

Platner had reshared a post on X by Stew Peters, whom the paper described as a Christian nationalist and conspiracy theorist. It referred to members of both parties applauding at the State of the Union as President Trump discussed actions against Iran's nuclear program. Platner added a comment faulting politicians in both parties for backing wars in the Middle East.

A campaign spokesperson told The Hill the team believed it was sharing a C-SPAN clip, did not know who had posted it and removed the post as soon as it found out, calling the account "despicable."

Platner, 41, an oyster farmer from Sullivan, wants to be the Democratic nominee against longtime Sen. Susan Collins. Gov. Janet Mills is also seeking the nomination.

In fall 2025, Platner drew criticism over a chest tattoo linked to the Nazi SS. He has said he got it decades ago while drinking with fellow Marines in Croatia, did not know what it meant and had it covered soon after.

A University of New Hampshire poll released on Feb. 24 found Platner would defeat Collins by a wide margin if the election were held now.
