Southern Maine Epoxy, a family-run flooring company based in Casco, said owner Kendal Roy learned the trade from his father, who still works nearby as a career installer. The company's owner said he was already working alongside his father on epoxy jobs by age 10, and that he and his wife later started the business, which the company described as deliberately small, with the person who quotes a job also the one who installs it.
Garages, Basements and Showrooms
Southern Maine Epoxy said it installs garage floor coatings, basement floor coatings, metallic epoxy pours, flake epoxy systems, commercial and industrial coatings, and specialty work on surfaces such as kennel runs, stairs, sunrooms and camps. For a typical residential garage, the company said grinding and repair happen on the first day, with the pour and topcoat finished the next, so the space is usable again by the weekend.
Grinding Before Pouring
The company said every floor starts with diamond grinding, which opens the concrete's surface so a coating bonds to the slab itself rather than to whatever sits on top of it, a step it said acid etching and roll-on kits skip. Cracks, spalls and joints are filled and leveled, the company said, and a moisture-resistant base coat goes in where dampness is a factor before the broadcast or metallic pour and a chemical-resistant topcoat are applied.
Serving the Sebago Lake Region
Southern Maine Epoxy said it chooses its coating systems based on Maine's winter conditions rather than generic specifications, pointing to road salt, snowmelt, sand and freeze-thaw cycles as the reason acid-etched or roll-on coatings tend to fail here. The company is based in Casco and said its crews travel as far as the Auburn-Lewiston area and Greater Portland for the right job, working most often in Raymond, Naples, Standish and Windham near Sebago Lake, and in Westbrook, Gorham, Portland, South Portland, Scarborough and Falmouth. It can be reached at (978) 483-6444.
