United Airlines will add 20 roundtrip transcontinental flights between the Portland International Jetport and California in the summer of 2027, a 65% increase over the service offered in the summer of 2026, jetport officials announced on November 2, WABI reported.

Seasonal Saturday flights to San Francisco resume on May 8, 2027, with Wednesday service added on June 23, 2027. Saturday service to Los Angeles returns on June 26, 2027, and United will operate six Wednesday flights to Los Angeles during the peak summer season. San Francisco service rises to 32 flights, up 77% from 2026, while Los Angeles service rises to 19 flights, up 46%.

United announced the first nonstop Portland-to-California flights in January 2026, with Saturday departures beginning June 27, 2026 — the first direct commercial service between Maine and California. The flights use Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft carrying up to 178 passengers. The schedule was initially set for 13 weeks, but five more weeks of Portland-San Francisco flights were added because of demand.

"The demand exceeded our expectations," said Paul Bradbury, airport director.

United now offers nonstop service from Portland to all seven of its domestic hubs. It has the second-most nonstop destinations from the jetport behind Breeze Airways, which announced its 12th Portland route, to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, starting in May 2027.
