The Mad Tinter, an automotive window tinting and ceramic coating company based in Detroit, said it has been named Maine's XPEL Dealer of the Year. According to its website, the shop installs three tiers of XPEL automotive film: PRIME CS, a color-stable carbon film with strong heat rejection; PRIME XR, which adds nano-ceramic technology that raises infrared heat rejection and improves optical clarity over carbon film; and PRIME XR PLUS, which the company called its top tier for both heat rejection and clarity.

Beyond the Automotive Bay

The company said all three XPEL tiers block 99% of ultraviolet rays, and every automotive tint installation comes with a lifetime warranty. Beyond cars, trucks and SUVs, the company said its work includes Feather Friendly bird-safe glass markers, residential and commercial window film, marine tinting for boats and pontoons, and XPEL's paint protection film paired with its Fusion Plus ceramic coating.

Maine's Tint Law

The company said Maine requires at least 35% visible-light transmission on the front side windows, allows darker tint on the rear side windows and back glass, and permits windshield tint only on the strip of glass above what installers call the AS-1 line. The Mad Tinter said it stocks legal shades for each film it carries and will recommend one suited to a given vehicle, and that medical exemptions are available through the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

A Shop Off Interstate 95

According to its website, most automotive tint jobs are finished the same day, and the company advises keeping windows rolled up for a cure period of three to five days, noting that slight haziness or small water pockets during that time are normal and clear on their own. The Mad Tinter is based at 300 River Rd. in Detroit, just off Interstate 95 between Waterville and Bangor, and said it draws customers from across Central Maine, with Augusta and Waterville to the south, Ellsworth to the east, and Bangor, Brewer, Old Town, Orono and Hampden closer to the shop. The shop can be reached at (207) 458-2226.
