Heating Oil Costs Surge To $5.77 A Gallon In Maine

Maine heating oil prices have climbed to an average of $5.77 a gallon, up about 70 percent from a year earlier, NEWS CENTER Maine reported. Applications are open for the state's Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which helps eligible households cover heating costs. Maine Housing reported that enrollment in the program is only slightly higher than it was a year earlier, even as prices have surged heading into winter. Eligibility rules apply to the program, and experts are also recommending that households seal windows and doors and use draft blockers to cut down on heat loss.
