Millinocket Mobile Mechanic Books a Month Out Across Dozens of Towns

Hayden Maxfield runs Maxfield Mobile Mechanic out of Millinocket, driving to homes, parking lots and roadside breakdowns across a wide swath of northern and central Maine rather than fixing cars from a fixed shop location, the Bangor Daily News reported.

Since opening in August 2025, the business has grown busy enough that Maxfield has sometimes been booked out a full month ahead. His territory spans 25 Aroostook County towns plus additional coverage in Penobscot, Piscataquis and Somerset counties. Local organizers recognized the venture in 2026, naming it top auto-repair business in Millinocket's community awards. Maxfield handles nearly everything a conventional garage does, including brakes, transmission work and major engine teardowns, with the exception of state vehicle inspections.

Maine's 2023 Automotive Right to Repair law has helped independent technicians like him access vehicle diagnostic data once available only to dealerships. Convenience, shorter wait times and lower cost for customers drew Maxfield to the mobile-repair model, he said, adding, "My business is really growing and my customer base likes the convenience." Current pricing runs $0.95 per mile for travel plus $65 an hour, with the hourly rate rising to $85 on July 1, 2026.
