Back River Bistro in Wiscasset will serve its last meal on Oct. 30, 2026, owners Matt and Corrinna Stum announced in a Facebook post, 92 Moose reported.

The closing date is listed on the restaurant's website and social media pages. The Stums said they had enjoyed four years in Wiscasset but decided to end the chapter, without giving a single reason for the closing. They said "another opportunity is knocking" and that they are expecting their second child in January 2027. The couple has not said what the new venture is.

The restaurant opened in 2022 with a focus on upscale, farm-to-table dining, according to the Wiscasset Newspaper, taking over the 65 Gardiner Street space that previously housed Little Village Bistro.

The Stums have decades of restaurant experience, the Wiscasset Newspaper reported, including their former Portland restaurant Ruby's West End and work at Fore Street Restaurant and Central Provisions.
