Lake House Tavern in Windham has begun running an eating contest built around a 64-ounce cut of prime rib, WJBQ reported.
The restaurant announced the contest on Facebook. Diners who sign up must finish the beef along with several sides, including a potato, a vegetable and bread, within 60 minutes, working alone and leaving nothing behind. Anyone who clears the plate in time gets the meal at no cost, plus a T-shirt and a photo displayed in the restaurant. Those who fall short pay $95. The tavern also warned that a $100 cleaning charge applies if a competitor gets sick.
The contest runs only on Thursdays, beginning at 5 p.m. It was first offered on October 28, when seven people entered and two finished, according to WJBQ.
Lake House Tavern is at 907 Roosevelt Trail. It opened in 2024 in the building that previously housed Franco's Bistro, the Windham Eagle reported. Oversized prime rib dinners were already on the menu before the timed contest was introduced.
