Norway Savings Bank has donated $2,500 to the Center for Grieving Children in Portland, bringing its giving to the nonprofit to more than $15,000 over the past five years, the Bangor Daily News reported on October 14.
The center provides free support to children, teenagers and families coping with a death, and it assisted close to 4,000 people over the past year through volunteer-led groups, educational programs and outreach.
Alongside the cash gift, the bank produced a set of videos the nonprofit is using to recruit volunteer facilitators. The groups the center runs cover children ages 3 to 18 along with their parents and caregivers, adults ages 19 to 30, parents who have lost a child, and widowed spouses and partners. The videos describe the training volunteers receive and feature people who have served as facilitators.
Emma Walker, director of philanthropy at the center, said the bank "came to the Center and then delivered these beautiful videos" explaining how to volunteer and what the role involves. Gretchen Johnson, executive director, said the bank's support helps sustain the organization's services.
The center lists information on donating and volunteering on its website and can be reached at 207-775-5216.
