The University of New England launched the Nor'easter Global Network in conjunction with its second Industry Exploration Day, an event that brought students together with nearly 60 employers to discuss jobs and internships in Maine and elsewhere, WGME reported on October 15.
The two programs are intended to prepare students for their first jobs after graduation, according to the station. Students at the event talked with employers about career pathways, internships, workforce trends and job openings. They also had professional headshots taken and worked on resumes and LinkedIn profiles with professionals on hand.
Ashley Bigda, UNE's director of career readiness and workforce development, said the goal is to make entering the workforce less intimidating for new graduates by showing students the people behind job titles and organizations. The events are "breaking down the barriers between classroom and career," Bigda said.
