New Winterport Bakery’s Cider Doughnuts Sell Out by 9 A.M.
Andrew and Jarrett Norris left the Prospect Store to open the new spot, which has already built a following of regulars.
A married couple who ran the Prospect Store for two years has opened The Rolling Pin Cafe and Bakery in Winterport, the Bangor Daily News reported.
Andrew Norris and his husband, Jarrett, opened the cafe at 145 Main St. in January. It serves breakfast and lunch, with table service as well as grab-and-go food.
Jarrett makes the bakery's cider doughnuts and scones from scratch, and they frequently sell out by 9 a.m. Andrew Norris's corned beef hash, made with brisket that cooks overnight, has also caught on, along with sandwiches, paninis and specials such as a meatloaf based on his grandmother's recipe.
Norris said the town's reception surprised him and that customers were glad to have another option. The cafe has built a base of regulars from the Winterport area, and he said diners at different tables often end up talking with one another. "They're all engaging everybody, which is kind of what we were looking for," he said.
The couple wants the cafe to become more of a gathering place in the months ahead. They are looking at dates for evening painting workshops, expect to add outdoor patio seating when spring arrives and hope to hold a farmers' market in the lot.
