Hannaford's website and mobile app were taken offline as its parent company, Ahold Delhaize, responds to a cybersecurity problem, The Portland Press Herald reported.

Ahold Delhaize, the Dutch owner of the Scarborough-based supermarket chain, said in a news release on October 12 that it had an internal network issue and had pulled some systems offline as a protective step. Both the Hannaford app and website displayed unavailable messages on the morning of October 13, according to the Press Herald.

Stores are operating normally, and online orders that cannot be filled will be refunded. The company did not say when online service would return, and Hannaford did not immediately respond to a request for comment, the Press Herald reported.

It was not clear whether customer or employee information was exposed. A breach of Ahold Delhaize systems in November 2024 affected more than 95,000 people in Maine — most of them current or former employees, according to Hannaford — and more than 2 million people worldwide.

Ahold Delhaize runs more than 2,000 stores in the United States under brands including Hannaford, Stop & Shop, Food Lion and Giant Food.

This story was first reported by The Portland Press Herald.
