Seeds of Hope, a Biddeford nonprofit, has offered to run the roughly $600,000 operation from November through April.

Portland is preparing to shift its overnight warming operations away from Riverside Street to a building on Oxford Street, also known as Elena's Way, NEWS CENTER Maine reported on October 13.

The city's health and human services department was offered the Oxford Street space by Preble Street, according to the report. Seeds of Hope, a nonprofit based in Biddeford, has proposed operating the site, which would open overnight as needed from November through April.

The cost of running the shelter is estimated at roughly $600,000, with about half expected to be covered by a grant tied to housing funding, according to the report. The Portland City Council is reviewing the real estate and related considerations before the plan moves ahead.
